Jolahna Gamblewood
(She/Her)
3-6 Program Lead Teacher
As a child stomping around the fields of Skagit Valley, Jolahna dreamed of being a teacher. She loved to help others and was excited when her help led them to discovery. However, a less than inspiring schooling experience of her own dis-swayed her from pursuing a career in teaching. Instead, she pursued a degree in Environmental Education and spent time working with people of all ages, helping them connect with the natural wonders of the world.
While inspired by the beautiful landscapes she worked in, Jolahna craved more connection with her students and their learning journey. When she discovered Montessori education, she found a philosophy that resonated with her beliefs and she saw the potential to create an environment that would embrace every child for who they are, nurture their love of learning, and support their internal motivation.
Jolahna has now spent over a decade teaching in Montessori classrooms and holds certifications at the Early Childhood and Lower Elementary levels through the American Montessori Association. When she found her way to the Early Childhood classroom, she knew she had found her home. She is continually inspired by young children's generous hearts, wide-eyed curiosity about the world, brutal yet innocent honesty, and many insightful questions. She is deeply grateful to be a part of the Blue Heron community and for getting to spend her days with such inspiring young people.
When not at Blue Heron, Jolahna can be found cheering on her daughters on the roller derby track, working in her garden, exploring the PNW forests and mountains with her family, or snuggled up at home with her two cats and a good book.
